SIFT Culture and politeness studies for US Air Force

At SIFT I worked on research programs funded by the US military. E4D2 is a setup for testing the effects of politeness and culture on task performance. We used it to gather empirical evidence that politeness affects reaction time and compliance with orders, even when conveyed by digital agents (like bots). This was a multi-experiment program where we also varied Hofstede's cultural dimensions such as rank, social distance and gender of the agents.  I was an intern on a team with 4 senior researchers, and my main role was to do statistical hypothesis testing for the experimental & survey data, and to help operate the experiments. (Principal Investigator: Dr. Christopher Miller)
More coming soon. In the meantime, read all about this project here.
